winter wishes

It's raining and cold today, plus all the autumn/winter catalogues are coming my way - the perfect day to begin fantasising about my winter wardrobe.

Autumn/Winter 2010 wants:

Stupid amounts of hosiery, including these amazing Sgt Pepper leggings by Voodoo - Have seen these in real life, so soft and cottony and love the buttons. This pic from the myer catalogue.
Other hosiery includes sheer spotty numbers, like the amazing ones overseas (Leona Edminston's had a pair of these out for AGES, called Opal. She was way ahead, haha).
Also lusting plain white opaques and some lovely grey patterns.

And some more dresses suitable for working in:

Plain black (this from ezibuy) to accessorise with pearls, with a shot of bright colour (I'm envisioning purple opaques and a patent red belt) , with anything.

Or this French Connection 'Carly' dress. Simple, flattering (I would imagine) and easy as hell to style on a lazy day.

Some plain black and grey maxi skirts, a la Childhood Flames. This is basically vintage CF, love her.

Entire looks from Country Road, such as this, for working situations...

Some lazy knit cardigans in navy, a very light pink, grey, etc.

This is a "long sleeve drapped cardigan" from Just Jeans. Yes, drapped. Not draped. Drapped. See for yourself. And they didnt just spell it wrong once, it's several times. Hire me to subedit your website, ok?

An amazing navy velvet blazer like Rachel Bilson's (photo from JustJared). Wouldn't say no to her Philip Lim dress either...

A floral dress just like this topshop one, but quite possibly the $30 cheap version... (to wear with the white opaques, mmm).

Have made 2 purchases recently, scoured the amazing Myer sale.
(Myer is a massive Australian dept store, probably second to David Jones in terms of amazing brands, but I find Myer makes great stuff of their own, I love the Miss Shop and Tokito brands, Tokito esp for workwear)

Got these skirts for amazing discounts.

Tokito bandage skirt was originally $60, got it for $20 (it's technically summer stock but would look amazing with black opaques), looks incredible on.

Tokito grey work skirt, was originally $70, got that for $25. I think I'm going back to give the racks another peruse tomorrow!

What's on your wishlist for the new season? I'm so excited for winter!

Some of us bloggers should arrange wardrobe swaps and ship each other out out-of-season clothes :P

200

It's my 200th post, isn't that exciting??

I've been wanting to do something skirty with this piece of material for a while now, and I pulled it out this morning (part procrastination, part fulfilling a goal) to have a play with.

I ended up layering it under this gold skirt I made a while ago. I wanted the skirt to be just plain ruching but it ended up in panels, whatever.

Homemade gold skirt, piece of fabric (no idea where from) and Country Road knit top.

I am again liking the overall drape of the outfit, the 3 layers not "going" together at all but somehow seeming to complement each other. Navy, gold and pink don't sound like the loveliest combination but I quite liked it.

When I uploaded my photos I found this one I took a couple of days ago. I recently rearranged my room (makes it so much harder to take outfit photos, idiot) and took a picture of my newly organised magazine collection. The entire left and middle piles are Australian Vogues, and the right hand pile is made up of 1 Paris Vogue, 5 each US and UK vogues, 2 UK Elles and 1 UK Harpers (on top).

I've yet to decide which is my favourite international mag... what's yours? I want to subscribe to one one day (to avoid the constant monthly outlay of big $$ for magazines), but I just don't know which one! I'm leaning towards UK Vogue...

Vogue AU march 2010 - Abbey Lee editorial.

All the photos from this incredible editorial!!

The cover has been all over the net in the last couple of days (getting the northern hemispherers excited for summer, no doubt).

Fashion editor Naomi Smith
Photographer Max Doyle
Shot at Bondi Beach
And it's a million pages long.

Quite simply. One of my top 5 editorials ever. So damn Australian. And Abbey Lee! I could hug her to death. She's incredible. One of the shots is her in that simply amazing purple versace mini dress she wore on the runway...

Excuse my crappy photos - I was just so excited to share!

Click on the pictures for larger versions.

Really, REALLY good shot ^

Love this too. ^

Male model: Tyler Atkins from Chic.

^Really amazing shot.

^This is that incredible Versace dress she wore on the runway!

^The covershot. The lip stuff is MAC lipmix in Orange and lipstick in CB96. The dress is by Dion Lee.

And these random boys! Were they just found on the beach? Are Kirstie Clements' twin teenage boys among them? DO THEIR GIRLFRIENDS KNOW THEY'RE IN VOGUE?

I think they're a fantastic addition - it's so unexpected but I love it. It's SO Australian and timeless. I kept looking for Abbey Lee somewhere in the photos, but she's not there, and I love it. It's like atmosphere for a photo shoot. Love it.

(^ not a really bad photo - that's the dreamy, reflection sort of effect on the page)
^^ LOVE these 2 shots side by side, especially the gorgeous blue Louis Vuitton dress.

A lot of people, especially on tFS, have been having quite a go at the editorial, for not being as "amazing" as the cover.
Well to that, I say - most of you have only seen the 5 photos someone posted on there, not the 20-something page entire ed in all its hard copy glory.

Also - it's Australian. Americans and Brits might not "get it", but that makes Australians love it even more.

It's editorials and covers and editions like this that keep me subscribing to Vogue, and prevent me from ever saying a bad word about it. I *love* Australian Vogue. True, they've got to use editorials from overseas sometimes. Vogue Au is a very small magazine! Kirstie hasn't got the endless budget Anna does, or testino and Demarchelier living down the road and obeying her every beck and call. I think she does pretty damn well with what she's got.

ps, there's a behind the scenes video on the Vogue site, well worth a watch - it's gorgeous.

all straightened up with nowhere to go.

Top and shorts both from Portmans.

These cutoffs were the best purchase ever. These and my denim mini skirt, I wear them all the time. I was really lucky to find this shirt as well - I've been looking for a nvay and white striped shirt for a while. I found one, once, in the guys section of some store at DFO, but I think I recall my boyfriend saying "It doesn't do much for your 'lady area'" (make of that what you will), but this one is definitely much nicer. The cut it good - it's different and I've not seen anything else like it.

Wore this shirt earlier this month, but tucked into a navy skirt. I like the versatility - a lot of shirts that are wide at the bottom like this just don't work in terms of tucking in, but with this it works, and gives a completely different look to the outfit.

Better shot of the top and hair, now that it's straightened and all cared for. Natural colour! All mine! And basically all one length! It has been a long process. Now to grow. Grow like a maniac.

My mum's singing along to Pink right now. She loves her.

ps, how cute is this painting?
Click the picture for this girl's Etsy site. (I'm not getting paid to do this - she has a very cool series on this stuff and I love supporting little etsy artists!)

fake lbd.

In my shadow, this outfit looked like a flowy, jersey dress, even though it's 2 pieces. I like that about it, the drape-on-drape. Pre my fashion obsession, I used to equate a drapy top with skinny jeans, or a flowy skirt with a tight singlet. But I rather like this - the flowy, smooth sort of effect that 2 drapy pieces give.

And its a very cute, casual, pseudo-LBD.

Wearing Dotti T and Portmans skirt (again), Voodoo tights, shoes from my neighbour's friend's trip to England (they didnt fit anyone, so I ended up with them. Not complaining!).

Closeup of the tights:
I've got so many patterned tights and nets, I need to actually start wearing them. The end of summer is good because it's not TOO hot. Even though it's not really the end of summer yet, I'm dreading February...

Oh and I had a haircut today! Just a couple of inches off. Now its all the same length except the shaping around the face. Sigh. Grow, grow!

I know this is a horrible photo but I thought the wind effect was funny, so I'll show you:

Had to take these outside, and I'm typing quietly, because my boyfriend's asleep on my bed while I do this. He's been working hard all week :( and for no money! Uni placements are such a rip - free labour!

But we're off to see Up In The Air soon, which I'm looking forward to. We like George Clooney. And I'm obsessed with airports... haha.

Convince myself, it's my life.

I'm bored and uninspired, it's hot, blah blah whinge whinge. The weather here is crap at the moment. All day its hot and then its overcast and threatens rain for hours on end, then there's a poor attempt at rain and then its hot again and it just sucks.

So heres a slightly fashion/beauty post, with an element of voyeurism. Who doesnt love a good sneak into someone elses life, without having to break in through the basement window, Lyndsey Salmon-style?

In the bag:

(Still wearing the bag in.)
Sunglasses
lip stuff
a pen ( I ALWAYS use this when I'm out)
purell (nearly empty, I've got a full one in the drawer ready to go)
mini deoderant (it's summer, ok)
first aidish sort of kit (advil, bandaids, nail scissors and file)
wallet
glucodin (energy tablets, pure sugar basically. A godsend when I've had a few busy days)
tube of hair ties
papaw ointment
rose hand cream
Strawberry body butter
a lolly (I had two - other other was eaten while taking this photo)
my iPod
picture of me and the boy.

Bag - Country Road Evie Shoulder bag, navy.

Beauty products I take mostly everywhere include Lucas' Papaw ointment (the stuff is amazing, I use it on my lips, really dry skin, etc), chapstick, strawberry body butter from the body shop (for those random dry skin patches), Jurlique Rose hand cream (LOVE the smell of rose, this stuff is divine), and Body shop lip stain.

I've been meaning to post about this stain for some time, I love it. I was looking for a perfect lip stain and a few that I tried didn't quite do what I was looking for.
I want that "I just ran through the orchard wearing a white dress eating raspberries under the shade of the chateau" type of look.

Lips before stain:

Lips after one coat (ignore my hair, ignore my hair):
Lips after 2 coats:

How's the subtlety? I love it. Though, it does seem slightly less-subtle (a bit brighter) in real life.
I often add a topcoat of papaw or chapstick, just for a bit of moisture and hint of gloss. The thing with a lip stain is that it does just that - stains. It's not a sticky, glossy mess like others I've tried, plus it has a strong colour and isn't weak, like others.
It stays on for literally hours, if I put it on in the morning I only need to refresh it once, usually after lunch.

While taking photos I thought I'd incorporate a couple of my room, my little haven.

Thankyou note from my cousin for helping with her baby shower,

Picture of my dad from ages ago,

Roses and assorted flowers from Rob that I've hung in my closet to dry out,
My dvd and cd collection, including the recently acquired The September Issue, The Queen, Johnson and Friends (best show ever), The Devil Wears Prada, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Stranger Than Fiction (amazing), Juno, a couple of seasons of Seinfeld, The Polar Express, etc. I've been told I have a weird taste in dvds.

Vogues, mostly Australian, and my books, plus straightener and cd/ipod player.

My favourite books are extremely loud and incredibly close, by Jonathan Safran Foer, Incendiary by Chris Cleave (both of which were used in a year 12 extension english 2 major work), Harry Potter 7 (you're lying if you say you hate HP, or its below you. HP is above EVERYTHING), and Mercy by Jodi Picoult. Jodi Picoult's books are my guilty pleasure...

Plus the fashion books too big to fit in my bookcase,
This makes me want to rekindle my love for Influence. And that makes me really excited.

xx

ps, iPad (formerly known as iSlate) is basically a massive iphone/ipod touch, with a crap name that proves more females need to work at Apple. If you've got a macbook and an iPhone, what use would you have for this? confused.
